The five-day director general (DG) level conference of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) formally began on Thursday at the BSF headquarters in New Delhi, reports BSS.

An 11-member Bangladesh delegation headed by BGB Director General Major General Md Shafeenul Islam joined the formal session of the conference while BSF Director General Shri Vivek Kumar Johri led a 19-member Indian delegation, said a BGB press release here.

During the meeting, discussions were held on killing, injuring or opening fire on innocent Bangladeshi citizens in the border areas and finding ways of stopping such activities, preventing smuggling of firearms and drugs, including yaba, phensedyl and alcohol, into Bangladesh from India and implementing the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP) for border management and resolving border related problems soon.

Prevention of trespassing borders by BSF and the citizens of India and Myanmar, and the constructing border roads by Bangladesh along the Bangladesh-India border also came up for discussion.

After the formal session of the conference, the BGB director general paid a courtesy call on India’s Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah.

Marking the conference, a ‘Moitri Cup Tournament’ will be arranged between the volleyball teams of BGB and BSF at Chhawla camp stadium today.

The five-day border coordination conference will end on December 29 through the signing of ‘Joint Record of Discussions (JRD)’, said a BGB press release here.
