BASIS, CanCham BD joint hands for ICT expansion

For expanding Bangladeshi ICT Sector Business in Canada and to attract Canadian Investors a memorandum of understanding has been signed between BASIS and Canada Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanCham Bangladesh) on Thursday. 

BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir and CanCham Bangladesh President Masudur Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organization. At the MoU signing program, Benoit Préfontaine, High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh was present as Chief Guest.  

On behalf of BASIS, Senior Vice President Farhana A Rahman, Vice President (Finance) Mushfiqur Rahman were also present. 

High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh said, According to Statistics, Bangladesh exports to Canada have grown by 37 percent in the last five years. It’s on track to reach $3 billion by 2021. I hope this MoU will help Bangladeshi ICT sector to expand their business in Canada. I am delighted that CanCham Bangladesh has signed MoU with the APEX ICT Trade Body of Bangladesh- BASIS. 

After the MoU signing BASIS President said, BASIS has been working closely with the government towards achieving the Digital Bangladesh Vision `Vision 2021’ and to achieve the target of earning $ 5 billion by 2024 from ICT sector. More than 60 percent of the export earnings from Software and IT enabled services of Bangladesh are coming from Canada and North America mainly USA. We want to expand ICT business in Canada. Hence, today we have collaborated up with CanCham Bangladesh. A Bangladeshi business delegation is going to attend 13th Toronto Global Forum and Bangladesh-Canada Business Forum 2019 during September. With this, our collaboration with CanCham Bangladesh will begin. 

CanCham Bangladesh President said, Many a Canadian investors are keen to invest in Bangladesh’s ICT sector. Besides, Canada has taken several initiatives in this regard. CanCham, BASIS and Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) will work closely in this regard. 

At the MoU signing ceremony high officials of BASIS and CanCham Bangladesh were also present.
