Banking sector plays significant role in country’s development

Dr. Atiur says at Bankers Welfare Club's seminar

Banking sector is playing a very significant role in the country's ongoing development process, said former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Prof. Dr. Atiur Rahman.

"Today banking services have reached to the doorstep of people because the expected development has taken place in this field. Bankers have been keeping the flow of development dynamic through mobile banking, agent banking and various digital banking services", Prof. Atiur added.

He was addressing a discussion titled "Role of Bankers and Banks in the Development Planning of Bangladesh", organised by 'Bankers Welfare Club, Bangladesh' at the national press club in the capital on Saturday.

State Minister for Planning Md. Shahidujjaman Sarker attended the meeting as the chief guest with President of the organisation, CFO of Mercantile Bank, Dr. Tapas Chandra Pal in the chair. 

As chief guest the state minister handed over prizes among the winners of inter-bank Chess competition also unveiled cover of the organization's bulletin 'The Bankers Mirror'.

While addressing, the chief guest praised various moves of the welfare club also given hope to provide necessary cooperation if an initiative is taken to establish a hospital for bankers.

General Scretary of the organisation, Lion Hamidul Alam Shokha moderated the event while former Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Joint Secretary, Md. Anwarul Islam Khondoker, Treasurer, Abu Zafar Md. Mohiuddin and Member Mukitul Kabir also spoke on the occasion.
