Bangladesh sees surge in Covid cases

Bangladesh has experienced a rapid rise of Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till 8am Monday.

Although the country reported zero Covid-19 death in the past 24 hours, it recorded 128 coronavirus positive cases during the period.

However, the number of Covid cases crossed 100 on Sunday for the first time in 67 days.

The positivity rate stood 1.91 percent after 6,688 samples were tested across the country on Monday.

Urging the people to be cautions, Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said that Covid-19 infections have been increasing in the country again.

“Covid-19 infection has increased a little in the country. Be careful. Masks should be worn, and social distancing should be maintained,” he said during a meeting regarding the automation of the private medical and dental admission process on Monday.

The official tally showed that the virus killed 29,131 people and infected 1,954,243 so far, the statement added.

The recovery count rose to 1,905,337 after another 71 patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the past one day.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 97.50 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.49 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.

Among the 29,131 fatalities, 12,801 were from Dhaka division, 5,863 from Chattogram, 2,142 from Rajshahi, 3,718 from Khulna, 982 from Barishal, 1,328 from Sylhet, 1,417 from Rangpur and 880 from Mymensingh.
