Sammilito Business Parishad's Panel leaders have commented that the Chattogram division is the heart of the country’s economy, and sustainable progress of Bangladesh is not possible without the overall development of this region.

They made these comments at a view-sharing meeting organized at the King of Chattogram in Panchlaish police station of the city on Monday night.

The program was presided over by the Chattogram Sammilito Business Parishad Convener Shajahan Mohiuddin. He said, ‘Chittagong is the heart of the country’s trade. If the development of the industrial, port, communication and investment sectors can be accelerated here, the face of the national economy will change.’

The Sammilito Business Parishad, Panel leader SM Nurul Haque spoke as the main discussant. He said, ‘The unity of the Chattogram businessmen can be the basis for the revival of the economy of Bangladesh. We will work to create a business-friendly environment, ensure transparency in VAT-tax policy and port-based development.’

Special discussant SM Fazlul Haque, a prominent businessman, social worker and political figure, said, ‘Chattogram is the main center of the country’s revenue income. However, there is no proper investment in infrastructure and development projects here. A part of the income generated from ports, industrial areas and export activities should be allocated directly for the development of Chattogram.’

Leaders of various business associations including BGMEA, BKMEA, C&F Association, Tire Tube Importers Association, Khatungonj Business Association, Terrybazar Business Association, Tamakundilane Business Association, Greater Chawkbazar Business Association, Falmondi Business Association, Jubilee Road Business Association, Riazuddin Bazar Business Association, National Small and Cottage Industries Association, addressed the meeting.

The speakers said that Chattogram businessmen are not only the driving force of the local economy, but they are also important partners in national development. The active role of the business community in the development of ports, industry, education, tourism and communication systems is now the demand of the hour.

The meeting called for the formation of a unified business platform focusing on the economic development of Chattogram, which will play a role in protecting the interests of businessmen and expanding the overall trade of the country.
