Bangladesh is going to sit with Qatar in the first-ever political dialogue to take the bilateral relations with the gulf country to a ‘new height’.
State Minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam will lead the Bangladesh side while his Qatar counterpart Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi will lead the other side in the first-ever dialogue styled ‘Foreign Office Consultations’ in Dhaka.
Such Consultations provide an opportunity to review the whole range of bilateral relations, including political, economic, commercial, scientific, regional and international cooperation.
The dialogue with Qatar comes ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar will host the world game, preparations of which require huge workforce. Officials say Bangladesh is ready to extend all-out support and cooperation to Qatar with the supply of manpower from skilled to unskilled.
“We enjoy excellent bilateral relations, so there are lot of scopes to strengthen the relations further,” a senior official at the foreign ministry told Bangladesh Post. “We’ll take stock of the existing ties and explore potentials during the meeting”.
The two-way trade between the countries is worth nearly $1 billion, excluding LNG. Bangladesh imports LNG from Qatar and wants to export medicines to the gulf country.
