Bangladesh makes mask use mandatory for Covid-19

Bangladesh on Tuesday in an official order made the use of masks mandatory for all places amid growing numbers of Covid-19 infections.

According to the circular, all of the officials and staff of the government, semi-government, autonomous and private offices will wear masks.

Those who will come to those offices for services will also wear masks. The offices will ensure the use of the visitors.This mandatory mask use is also applicable to all hospitals, places of worship of all religions, shopping places, hotels, restaurants, open markets, any social gatherings, all modes of transport, and for all workers in factories.

Law enforcing agencies will ensure mask use among the pedestrians and rickshaw-pullers.

The circular issued by the health ministry asked the relevant authorities to ensure the use. But there is no mention of any penalty for the violators.

The number of coronavirus cases and deaths has been rising in recent weeks in Bangladesh.The country now has more than 200,000 officially confirmed cases and over 2,700 deaths.

Upcoming Eid-ul-Adha is a big concern as people will move from one place to another to celebrate one of the biggest religious festivals.
