Bangladesh has maintained the trend of constant progress in the information and communication technology or ICT sector even during the Covid 19 epidemic crisis.

Compared to the previous year, Bangladesh has advanced in the field of Broadband, Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) last year.

As a result, in 2020, 3 more points have been added to the achievement of Bangladesh in this sector.

This picture has emerged in the report titled 'Global Connectivity Index 2020' of global technology giant Huawei.

It was recently released in 79 countries based on the infrastructure and capabilities of the digital sector.

It gives approval and direction to countries and industries regarding digital transformation and highlights the right level of digital progress of countries.

Huawei has released the GCI report on the basis of 40 indicators in the 4 areas of supply, demand, experience and potential in countries since 2015.

The countries have been divided into 3 categories. These are: frontrunner, adapter and starter. Bangladesh is in the starter group in this list.

Last year, the average mobile broadband usage in the countries of this starter group increased two and a half times, their 4G subscriptions increased and mobile broadband became 25 percent more affordable.

These achievements have enabled starter countries to provide better digital services and embrace new opportunities in economic development.

In addition, their spending on e-commerce has almost doubled since 2014.

According to the GCI 2019 report, Bangladesh became the top mover in the field of mobile finance among these starter countries.

According to the GCI 2020 report, Bangladesh has advanced 8 points in the 'Global Connectivity Index' since 2015. And among those 40 indicators, the international internet bandwidth, 4G connection has increased in 2020 compared to last year. As well as AI and IoT probability rate has increased.

Research has shown that countries that can increase productivity and ensure digital services by using intelligent connectivity are relatively more likely to benefit. It directly affects per capita income.

Countries that are moving towards digital infrastructure are able to overcome the economic downturn caused by coronavirus quickly.

According to the 2020 report, the digital transformation of the industry will help countries increase productivity; revive economic recovery and competitive development in the future.
