Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States (US) to import 7 lakh tonnes of wheat annually aiming to ensure its overall food security, nutrition and food supply.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder said this MoU will create an opportunity to build trust and a wider area of mutual trade cooperation between Bangladesh and the US, while both countries
will benefit.
Md Abul Hasanat Humayun Kabir, Director General of the Food Department, and Joseph K Sower, Vice President of the US Wheat Association, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
Under the MoU, Bangladesh will import seven lakh metric tons of hi\gh-quality wheat annually from the United States at competitive prices for the next five years, a press release said on Sunday.
Food Secretary Md Masudul Hasan presided over the event at the conference room of the ministry.
It was attended, among others, by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Tracey Ann Jacobson, the Commerce Secretary and other high-ranking officials from both sides.
