In the current world, information technology is not just a sector but a major force in determining a country's economy, security, and global position. Bangladesh has come a long way with the goal of building a "Digital Bangladesh," but the reality is that there are some major limitations in this progress, which are preventing the country from reaching the desired heights.

Thousands of students in Bangladesh complete their studies in information technology every year, but there is a major deficit in terms of skills. Since practical skills are less than theoretical knowledge, it becomes difficult to compete in the international market. The gap between the old syllabus of the education system and the needs of the industry has deepened this problem.

Despite infrastructural development, quality internet and technological facilities have not yet been ensured in many parts of the country. In addition, due to low investment in research and innovation, Bangladesh is lagging behind in developing new technologies. Although there is a policy plan, the lack of effective implementation has become a major challenge.

To understand Bangladesh's position, it is important to look at neighboring countries. India is today one of the largest IT service providers in the world, where Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys are leading the global market.  Pakistan is moving forward in freelancing and software exports, while Sri Lanka and Nepal are making progress in the IT sector with specific strategies. This comparison makes it clear that despite the potential, Bangladesh has not reached the desired position.

The importance of information technology is not limited to the economic sector; it also plays an important role in military power. In the modern world, war no longer depends only on weapons but also on cybersecurity, drone technology, artificial intelligence, and advanced communication systems. The United States, China, and Israel have increased their military capabilities many times over by using this technology. In the case of Bangladesh too, the development of this sector can play an important role in national security.

To overcome this situation, modernization of the education system, skill-based training, and direct connection with the industry are needed. In addition, it is necessary to introduce modern courses such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data science. Startup encouragement, investment in research, fast internet, and the spread of technology are also equally important.

The most important thing is not policy formulation but its effective implementation.  Sustainable development of this sector is not possible without long-term planning, transparency, and accountability.

Finally, it can be said that Bangladesh's information technology sector still has potential. With proper planning and skilled human resources, this sector can become the main driving force of the country's economy and security.
