Lawmakers on Sunday said Bangladesh is now economically stable amid the ongoing global economic meltdown due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Bangladesh is now economically stable due to befitting leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when the global economy is facing severe crisis due to Russia-Ukraine war, they said while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku in the chair.
Taking part in the discussion, the lawmakers highlighted different development activities in various sectors, including communication, socio-economic, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT), under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The President in his 168-page speech on January 5 last, on the first day of the maiden session in 2023 of the 11th parliament, focused on the country’s massive successes in different sectors.
“Bangladesh is now economically stable as diversified steps are being taken by the government despite the global economic crisis,” said Mahmud Hassan of Gaibandha-5.
Revolutionary changes have been brought in power, energy, food production, education, health along with implementation of various mega projects which has helped to cement the economy of the country, said the lawmaker.
Mentioning different special articles published in various international journals including News Week and Economist, Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque said “We have achieved landmark success economically in various sectors under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “We must have to keep it [success] continue,” he also a lawmaker of Tangail-1 told the parliament.
Bangladesh now remains economically in strong position as per the global economic index report, said another treasury bench lawmaker Umme Fatema Nazma Begum of women seat-12.
She urged the government to bring back exile BNP leader Tareque Rahman from London for executing the verdict against him as the BNP-Jamaat killed 26000 ruling party activists during period between 2001 and 2006.
Coming down heavily on the role of BNP, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said the BNP leaders are threatening to oust an elected government and it is totally illegal.
Even BNP-Jamaat evil forces will be removed from the country through the upcoming national elections in 2024, said the minister also lawmaker of Lalmonirhat-2.
Participating in the discussion, Md Kazi Monirul Islam of Dhaka-5, said the country led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will progress ahead to fulfil the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman facing all conspiracies.
Lawmakers including Tanveer Imam of Sirajganj-4, Md. Habibar Rahman of Bogura-5, Md Nurul Amin of Chandpur-2 and Gonoforum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan of Sylhet-2, also participated in the discussion.
Earlier, the chief whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury came up with a proposal for holding a discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech in the House and then it was seconded by treasury bench lawmaker Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker.
The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.
Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
