Bangladesh confirms 2,733 cases a day

Bangladesh on Thursday confirmed 2,733 new cases of coronavirus and 39 more deaths from the disease.
With that, the number of total cases surged to 196,323 and deaths rose to 2,496.

Some 1,940 patients recovered during the period of 24 hours till 8am, taking the tally of cured patients to 106,963.
Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana at the daily bulletin said 12,889 samples have been tested in 80 labs across the country during the period. Of them, 21.20 percent came out positive. So far 993,291 samples have been tested - 19.76 percent found positive.

Bangladesh first detected the disease on March 8 and confirmed the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11.

Of the latest deceased, 31 were men and eight women. Thirty-five of them died in different hospitals and four at their respective homes.

Eighteen of them were hailed from Dhaka, six each from Chattogram and Khulna, three each from Rangpur and Sylhet, two from Barishal, and one from Rajshahi division.

According to the age-wise analysis, patients aged 60 and above comprised the most of the death tally - 43.95 percent or 1,097.The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 29.73 percent (742) and 14.38 percent (359).

Rest of the age groups stand under eight percent, such as- 31-40 with 7.05 percent (176), 21-30 with 3.04 percent (76), 11-20 with 1.16 percent (29) and under ten with 0.68 percent (17).

The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that 78.97 percent were males while 21.03 percent were females respectively.
Currently, 60,812 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,439 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 342,457 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 867 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,031 after 21,916 left.
So far, 54.48 percent of patients recovered and 1.27 percent died.
