Bangladesh and Meghalaya to work on tourism development

To advance the friendship and economic development of two neighboring countries, Bangladesh and India has emphasized on the development of tourism industry. 

The information was reveled when Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud met with Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy at his office in Shillong, India on Wednesday.

During the meeting, they put emphasis on flourishing tourism industry for strengthening the friendship between the peoples of Bangladesh and India and expediting economic development as well, according a release issued here.

Tathagata said Meghalaya is an attractive tourist destination to the Bangladeshis and the Indian people are also interested to visit Bangladesh through Sylhet boarder.

Dr Hasan agreed with the governor and informed him about the interest of the Bangladesh government in exploring tourism opportunities.

The information minister invited the Meghalaya governor to attend the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the next year.

Dr Hasan’s spouse Nuran Fatema and governor’s wife Anuradha Roy were present on the occasion.

Later, the minister handed over some gifts to the governor, including a replica of ‘Boat’, nakshi kantha and jamdani.
