Bangabandhu Tunnel toll rate finalised

The toll of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel constructed under the Karnaphuli river has been finalised.   However, the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges has hinted that the country's first tunnel will be opened before the elections.

According to the notification signed by Abul Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the Bridge Division Development Division, motorcycles will not be allowed to run in this tunnel built under the Karnaphuli river to connect Anwara with Chittagong city.  

Bangladesh Ministry of Roads and Bridges has issued a notification finalizing the toll rate according to the vehicle category last Thursday. 

 The minimum toll in the 3.43 km long Bangabandhu Tunnel is Tk 200.  Private cars have to pay this toll at the crossing.  Toll will be Tk 200 for each pickup crossing.  Microbus toll is Tk 250.  31 seater bus toll is Tk 300.  Toll for buses with more than 32 seats is Tk 400.   The toll for three-axle big buses has been fixed at Tk 500.  The toll for trucks capable of carrying goods up to five tonnes has been fixed at Tk 400.  A toll of Tk 500 will be charged for 8 tonne trucks and Tk 600 for 11 tonne trucks.  Tk 800 toll for three axle trailer. Tk 1000 to pay for four axle trailer.  Additional Tk 200 will be charged for each additional axle.  According to the notification, this toll rate will be effective from the day the tunnel is opened for vehicular traffic.  The date of inauguration of this tunnel, built at a cost of Tk 10 thousand 374 crores, has not been decided yet.
