Another accused in Abrar murder case held

Tip off by a secret information the detective police arrested another accused in Abrar Fahad murder case from Sylhet district in the early hours of Friday. The twenty-one year accused Mohammad Mazedul Islam is a 17th batch student of materials and metallurgical engineering department of BUET, said a senior police officer.

“On secret information, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive in Shah Kiron area in Sylhet and arrested Islam at 4:00am,” he added. Mazedul’s name has been mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR). He will be produced before court later in the day. With the arrest of Mazedul, the number of arrestees stood at 17 in connection with the murder of Abrar. Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering or triple E department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, died after he was tortured in a dormitory room allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men. Later, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed the murder case against 19 with the Chawkbazar Police Station.
