West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recovered some flesh from the septic tank of BU-56 flat of Sanjeeva Gardens, where Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar was killed.
They were believed to be the dismembered body parts of Anwarul Azim Anar, MP, according to West Bengal CID.
Sources said the West Bengal CID has recovered body parts weighing about 4 kg from that septic tank so far.
However, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has said that it can be confirmed after the DNA test whether this body belongs to the slain MP.
Siddheshwar Mondal, a sewage system worker at the Sanjeeva Gardens, said the flesh was kept in a glass jar with salted water.
The CID has already confirmed that Jihad Hawladar threw these flesh parts in the washroom commode.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid believes that even if the body parts of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anarul Azim Anar, who was murdered in Kolkata, is not recovered, there will be no difficulty in settling the case.
“The police of two Bengals have enough evidence,” he said while coming out of the Hotel Westin in Kolkata’s Newtown on Tuesday.
“Criminals will be punished. We will produce all the documents before the court. Hope it will not cause any problems in the case proceedings,” he added.
He said, “West Bengal CID and investigating officers are working very sincerely. At first, they searched the canal they had mentioned for quite some time. Still searching. And they are working. Besides, we made some requests. There is Hatishala Canal next to Sanjeeva Gardens. We have requested that it be searched.”
According to Kolkata intelligence sources, the body parts may have been flashed through the commode of the Sanjeeva Gardens flat where MP Anar was killed.
“We have another request: The house where our honourable MP entered should be searched. If you flash them, there are three commodes where the dirt accumulates, including the sewage line, and I have asked to break it. Hopefully, they will do these things today,” said the DB boss.
Meanwhile, the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Bangladesh Police has sent letters to Interpol to return Aktaruzzaman Shahin, the mastermind behind the murder of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, and his associate Siam.
Mastermind Shahin fled to the United States after the murder, and his associate Siam fled to Nepal.
Ali Haider Chowdhury, AIG of the National Central Bureaus (NCB) Branch Office of Interpol at Police Headquarters, said “A request has been made on behalf of DMP to bring back the two people involved in the murder of MP Anar. In that context, we have sent letters to the two countries concerned through Interpol. All cooperation is sought for the return of the two.”
He said a letter has been written to the US NCB asking for Aktaruzzaman Shahin's extradition. Moreover, with the help of Interpol, the police of the concerned country have been informed.
In the same process, a letter has already been sent to the concerned country with the help of Interpol to bring back Siam, one of the accomplices in the murder of the fugitives, to Nepal, he said.
Incidentally, America does not have a prisoner exchange agreement with Bangladesh. Since MP Anar’s murder case has also been registered in Kolkata.
For this reason, a separate letter has been sent to the Indian NCB. America and Nepal have a prisoner exchange agreement with India, so a letter asking for their cooperation has been sent.
Aktaruzzaman Shahin, the mastermind of Anwarul Azim Anar’s murder, has already been identified. Several people participated in the killing on his orders. Four of them (three in Bangladesh and one in Kolkata, India) have been arrested so far, but four are still absconding.
