UK-based Charge Cars has confirmed it will present a fully-electric version of the classic Ford Mustang at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
A prototype of the car will be on display in the Michelin Supercar Paddock at the ever-popular event held on the Duke of Richmond’s Chichester, England driveway.
Five hundred horses
In spite of its battery-based drivetrain, the Charge car could well outgun many of the classic V8-powered Mustangs at Goodwood. With four-wheel drive and power from a 64 kWh battery, the Charge Mustang packs over 500 horsepower.
It will rocket to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, plus a top speed of 149 mph.
When you are not ripping all four wheels into a spin, it will go 200 miles on a full charge, and is capable of 50 kW DC charging.
A total number of 499 Charge electric Mustangs will be built, each costing from £300,000 ($380,000). The shells are authentic classic Mustang items from the 1960s, fitted with components from EV technology company Arrival.

Electric restomod revival
This isn’t the first fully-electric classic Mustang, funnily enough. The Aviar Motors R67 combines Mustang looks with 840 horsepower of Tesla power.
Likewise, Jaguar has seen fit to add electric power to its own timeless classic, the E-type. And Aston Martin has followed suit with an electrified DB6. Could electric ‘restomod’ cars be the next big thing?
