The ruling Awami League has already started the electoral process in full swing with the party going to sell nomination forms for the upcoming 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections from tomorrow (Saturday).
Barrister Biplab Barua, Office Secretary of the AL, said on Thursday that party aspirants will be able to collect the forms from Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
The candidates will be able to submit nominations till 4:00 pm on November 21.
According to AL officials, the party will sell each nomination form for Tk 50,000 this year which was Tk 30,000 for the 11th JS polls.
Nomination papers for Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Chattogram divisions will be distributed from the second floor of the central office. Candidates of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barisal divisions will have to collect nomination papers from the third floor.
Nomination papers for all divisions can be submitted on the ground floor of the AL central office.
The party has instructed all the aspirants to collect and submit their application forms personally or have a designated representative, qualified by the candidate, complete this process.
It also asked to refrain from any additional gathering of people to ensure a smooth submission process.
The candidates have been asked to carry their National Identity Card (NID).
The 12th Jatiya Sangsad election is scheduled to be held on 7 January, 2024.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday evening announced the JS polls schedule.
As per the schedule, political parties will be able to submit nominations for candidacy till 30 November. The EC will scrutinise the nominations from December 1-4. Appeals against the nominations can be submitted from December 5-6 and nominations need to be withdrawn by December 17.
Political parties will be able to distribute symbols within December 18 and the election campaign will officially kick-off on December 18. The campaign duration will end at 8:00 am on 5 January.
Meanwhile, the National Election Steering Committee of Bangladesh Awami League formed ahead of the 12th JS polls will meet today (Friday).
The meeting will be held at around 3:00pm at the office of Dhaka District and Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League located in Tejgaon.
Party’s National Election Management Committee Chairman and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will attend, said a press release issued by the Awami League.
