The recent polls to Gazipur, Khulna and Barishal City Corporations have geared up the ruling Awami League’s (AL) organisational activities across the country ahead of the next general elections.
The elections in these three city corporations held free, fair, impartial and peaceful manners which were endorsed by all quarters of people, have also brought smiles on the faces of the Awami League’s leaders and workers.
Against the backdrop of interfering in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by other countries and conspiracies hatched at home and abroad, now it is clear to all that the Awami League never betrays the country’s people.
So, the Awami League will be made stronger and vibrant ahead of national council and the country’s parliamentary polls.
The party men will also be geared up to work together so that the victory of the Awami League candidates can be ensured in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad polls.
The Awami League, one of the country’s oldest political parties with a fresh vow to continue works for the development of the country and the welfare of its people.
Apart from the AL leaders and activists, country’s people also expressed satisfaction over the Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Barishal City Corporations (BCC) and Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections, which were held in free, fair and peaceful manner.
Awami League backed Talukder Abdul Khaleque has been re-elected as mayor of Khulna City Corporation for the third time in the KCC election held on Monday while Awami League candidate Abul Khayer Abdullah has been elected mayor unofficially in the Barishal City Corporations elections.
In Gazipur, independent candidate Jayeda Khatun has won the Gazipur city poll defeating her nearest rival Awami League-nominated candidate Azmat Ullah Khan.
The voting was held in the three city corporations in peaceful manner as no untoward incident was reported during the balloting.
Though Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), one of the major opposition political parties, was not there in the race, all eyes were fixed on the elections as these were the major polls ahead of the country’s next general election under the Election Commission, led by CEC Kazi Habibul Awal.
These elections were also an acid test for the commission and the government as well, as people and different political parties observed the role of the commission, administration and law enforcers closely.
These city polls were also crucial due to the attention the government and the commission were receiving from the international community.
Countries such as the USA, UK, the EU, Japan, and even the UN had focused on these polls in three cities.
The polls to three cities were unbiased and level playing fields were also ensured there.
BNP leaders are always saying the people have no interest in the city polls being held under the election commission.
They had also said that the elections to the five city corporations would be stage-managed.
Besides, the leaders of BNP are deliberately spreading propaganda at different platforms against the country and the government.
BNP’s falsehood and malicious remarks frustrated the people.
The party leaders are also revealing their hateful and malevolent politics by making venomous remarks against the government and the country.
But, the ruling Awami League has proved that free, fair and impartial elections are held in Bangladesh only during the rule of Awami League government.
Countrymen have already rejected outright BNP’s falsehood and venomous speech.
The party (BNP) has been more isolated from grassroots level as it boycotted the city polls also.
Many leaders have got frustrated and become demoralised as they were not allowed to contest the city polls.
The party is now involved with conspiracies and propaganda as it fears about its political future.
People are now describing BNP as a democracy-destroying evil political force.
It has also been established that the party (BNP) is visible enemy of democracy and flag bearer of communal politics and instigator, patron of anti-liberation forces and instigator of radicalism.
The party’s senior leaders are now desperate to make the country a failed state and its people confused.
But all know BNP’s good governance meant strangling freedom of expression, holding voter-less elections, snatching people’s voting rights, killing of people for electricity and fertiliser, money laundering and torturing minority community.
On the other hand, Awami league has already formed full-fledged committees of the expired metropolitan, district, upazial, thana, municipality and union level units across the country.
Therefore, the recent city polls will be giving a boost to organisational activities of Awami League as party’s senior leaders are also holding meetings of presidium.
