AL doesn’t change its policy on Jamaat: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said Awami League did not change its political policy by giving permission to Jamaat for holding rally after a decade.

He made the remark while talking to journalists after attending a programme marking the 18th anniversary ceremony of highway police at Rajarbagh in the capital Dhaka.”

“Jamaat is an unregistered party,” the Minister said adding, “Many unregistered parties of the country organize different programmes. Unregistered political parties can hold their meetings indoors.”

According to the Home Minister, Jamaat wanted to hold an indoor rally and the DMP gave permission for the holding the rally after required security assessment.

He further said, “AL does not change its policy. Any unregistered party can hold their meeting indoor.”

Hailing the activities of the Highway Police, Kamal said, “Highway Police is playing a significant role in improving the quality of road transportation stretching 2,991 km, ensuring road safety and reducing the death rate in road accidents.

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was the special guest on the occasion.

Parliamentarian  Shajahan Khan,  Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Liberation War and President of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, Parliamentarian  Benazir Ahmad,  Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Home Affairs, Opposition Chief Whip and President of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, Parliamentarian  Mosiur Rahman Ranga, Public Security Department Secretary Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Road Transport and Bridges Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Ministry  Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Noori, Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Secretary Md. Manjur Hossain, among others attended the program.

Additional IGP Highway Police Md Shahabuddin Khan delivered the welcome address.

Osman Ali, Secretary General of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, Ilyas Kanchan, President of 'Nirapad Sadak Chai', Noor Mohammad, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and others also addressed the event. 

The Home minister further said that the current government has made visible progress in the communication system in the last decade keeping in view Vision 2021, Vision 2041, implementation of SDGs and the dream of the Prime Minister to build a smart Bangladesh. 

He said that like in the previous Eid festival, the highway police would also make appreciable contribution in preventing various criminal activities, including safe return of people to their home during the Eid festival holidays.

He said that ensuring overall law and order on the regional and national highways of the country is one of the responsibilities of the highway police.
