The ruling Bangladesh Awami League  will hold the party’s council in December this year, said Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Prime Minister said that after August 15, 1975, the condition of Bangladesh was deplorable. We are taking Bangladesh forward by using modern technology to bring it out of that situation. We are developing the country from the grassroots level, she added.

Awami League will also deal with any movement by the opposition parties on the streets, she said.

The Awami League chief made the disclosure on Wednesday afternoon in her speech before the party’s advisory council at Ganobhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister.

It may be recalled that the 21st National Council of Awami League was held on 20 and 21 December, 2019. The three-year term of the committee will expire in December.

Party sources said like the last two terms, the party wants to hold its National Council on schedule. As part of it, the ruling party is now busy holding councils of its different grassroots units, the tenures of which have already expired.

In her speech, Sheikh Hasina said, "We do not forget the election manifesto after the formation of the government by winning the election.  Every year at the time of budget announcement, we consider how much we have been able to achieve of that manifesto and how much we will have to do next. We are also going to do the same this year.”

The Awami League president said, “We have developed the country from the grassroots. Today we have got the status of a developing country. The Padma Bridge was a challenge. We have been able to take this challenge because we are honest. We have built that bridge with our own funds.”

“I will inaugurate it on June 25, Inshallah. A Canadian court has ruled that all allegations against the Padma Bridge are false. Dr. Yunus has done this only for the post of MD of the Grameen Bank.

A Canadian court in its verdict mentioned that all the allegations centring the Padma Bridge were false and lies.

“Dr Yunus did that just for the post of the Managing Director of Grameen Bank”, said Sheikh Hasina.

According to party sources, Sheikh Hasina sought advices from the party’s advisors on the upcoming national council and parliamentary elections as well. She also discussed various contemporary issues.

At the meeting, the Awami League president also instructed them to cooperate in various matters in the management of the party and the government as well.

The meeting began at 4:15pm with Sheikh Hasina in the chair as the parry chief. The meeting of the AL’s Advisory Council held on Wednesday was the first one after the National Council of the party held in 2019.

Earlier, however, a joint meeting with the party’s advisers and executive members were held on January 3 and 4 in 2020. The party could not hold any meeting of the advisory council due to Corona pandemic.

At the last National Council of the ruling party, the number of advisers was increased up to 51 from 41. But, in the meantime, several advisors of the party, including Haji Abul Hasnat, Joynal Hazari, Abul Mal Abdul Muhit and HT Imam died.
