Deputy Leader of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) and Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury Wednesday said the AL always stands beside the people of the country even when it stays in the opposition.
"Not only as the ruling party, even when Awami League remains in the opposition it never moves away from the people," she said.
The veteran AL leader said this in a programme at Lalbagh Shahid Nagar playground in the city for distributing blankets among the cold-hit people on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
AL does not do politics with crores of Taka, but it does politics with legal income and through hard work, she added.
Referring to the encouragement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to do charity, she said the Awami League of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has adopted the teaching of humanity of the Prophet.
Under the overall management of Ward number-24 AL Leader Jamil Hossain, the blanket-distribution ceremony was attended, among others, by valiant Freedom Fighter and President of Dhaka South City unit of AL Abu Ahmed Monnafi, General Secretary Humayun Kabir, Vice President Abdus Sattar, Organizing Secretary Akhtar Hossain and Former General Secretary of Lalbagh Thana unit of AL Matiur Rahman Jamal.
