Advance bus ticket sales for home-goers ahead Eid-ul-Fitr started on Friday morning.

Advance sale of tickets for April 26 to May 1 has started on bus counters in different terminals of the capital including Gabtali, Shyamoli and Kalyanpur.

However, the counters were not as crowded as expected and only a few people turned up to purchase tickets on the first day.

Faruk Talukder Sohel, a member of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association and owner of Sohag Paribahan, told the media that they had started selling advance bus tickets from Friday.

“However, it is not an official date. Owners are selling advance tickets at their counters according to their convenience. However, we usually choose holidays, including Fridays and Saturdays, for advance ticket sales, so that it is convenient for people,” he said.

According to the officials concerned, most of the people will leave the capital at the end of this month due to the long holiday of Eid. In that case, there will be more demand for the tickets of April 30 and May 1.

Moreover, with the opportunity to buy 30 percent of tickets online, many are leaning towards that.

Meanwhile, after visiting Shyamoli and Kalyanpur areas on Friday morning it was  seen that most of the counters were empty. There was no crowd of passengers anywhere.

Counter officials said that tickets are not being sold as there is no crowd of passengers. However, people might start crowding the counters for tickets from today (Saturday).

Advance sale of train tickets will start from April 23. Tickets will be sold online and at the station counters.
