The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will hold its 54th Annual Meeting of Board of Governors  as a virtual event from May 3 to 5 mainly focusing issues critical to the region’s recovery path out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Events will feature high-profile speakers including Finance Ministers from ADB member countries, development and industry experts, and ADB Management, according to an ADB handout.

The sessions, scheduled to be held as part of the AGM are Re-Imagining Asia and the Pacific in a Post-Pandemic World,  Shaping the Great Reset in Asia, Raising the Bar on Climate Ambition: Road to COP 26, Building Resilience in Fragile, Conflict-Affected, and Small Island Developing States, Launch of the Asia Pacific Tax Hub, Policies to Support a Green and Inclusive Recovery, CAREC at 20: Reimagining Regional Cooperation Through Digital Transformation, and the finally the Governors’ Business Session.

ADB President Asakawa will share his thoughts on the pandemic and focus areas for the recovery of the Asia and the Pacific region in a particular session.

He will put forward an agenda to help build back stronger through close collaboration among ADB's members and partners for a resilient and green future, Cooperation for a Resilient Future

A CNBC Debate will take place on May 3.  The Debate will explore opportunities for developing Asia to leverage its considerable strengths to plan and rebuild smartly for a world where globalization, finance, and trade relationships have been redefined by the pandemic.

The session titled ‘Raising the Bar on Climate Ambition: Road to COP 26 will take place on May 4.

The summery of the session is as mentioned, the global community is facing two generation-defining challenges— recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and responding to climate change. COVID-19 tragically exposed how unprepared we are to respond to shocks and the threat is multiplied by the climate crisis.

This seminar hoped to encourage dialogue on raising climate action ambition in the region by:  highlighting how a green, resilient, and inclusive recovery can stimulate economic activity, while laying the foundation for a transformative shift toward resilient net-zero emissions societies;   sharing experiences from countries that have recently embraced ambitious long-term national climate plans; and  underlining the critical role of finance in the global climate agenda.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina will discuss in this session.

The concept of the session titled ‘Building Resilience in Fragile, Conflict-Affected, and Small Island Developing States’  is as mentioned, ADB’s vision of a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific cannot be fully achieved while pockets of fragility remain in vulnerable countries.

This high-level panel discussion launches ADB’s new fragile and conflict-affected situations (FCAS) and small island developing states (SIDS) approach.

A Governors’ Seminar, titled Cooperation for a Resilient Future has been arranged on the contemporary perspective.

In this seminar, ADB Governors will discuss how future regional cooperation can be reshaped to reduce vulnerabilities to natural or man-made shocks and building economic and social resilience.

An ADB-IMF Webinar titled Policies to Support a Green and Inclusive Recovery is scheduled to be held on May 4.
