ACC sues 3 doctors among 6

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday filed a case against six people, including three doctors and two traders in connection with the much-talked about Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) curtain purchase scam. They were accused of trying to embezzle Tk 10 crore in collaboration with each other in the pretext of procuring medical equipment including curtains for the hospital. Those accused persons were identified as; Dr Gonpoti Biswas Shubho, assistant professor of FMCH, its former junior consultant, Dr Minakshi Chakma and former pathologist Dr AHM Nurul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, owner of Anik Traders, a construction firm owner, Munshi Farrukh Ahmed, owner of M/s Ahmed Enterprise, and Munshi Sazzad Hossain, an administrative official of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

Earlier on August 20, the High Court ordered the ACC to look into the irregularities and corruption in the procurement of specified items for the Intensive Care Unit of FMCH. It had given six months to submit the investigation report. ACC Deputy Director Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury filed the case at the Coordination Office of the ACC at Faridpur District at around 11:30am after receiving the probe report. Earlier on Tuesday, the ACC Headquarters at the capital’s Segunbagicha had approved the official to file the case.

Meanwhile, the ACC imposed a ban against two local Awami League leaders on their traveling. Officials concerned said, the ACC imposed ban on the travelling of Dinajpur district unit president of Swechchhasebok League, Imam Abu Zafar alias Razzab, and Dinajpur Sadar upazila unit Awami League general secretary Bishwajit Kumer Ghosh alias Kanchan. According to the ACC, travel embargos were imposed against those two persons for their involvement with tender manipulation, money laundering and various other corruption.
