Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday delivered a touchy and elaborate speech at the party council. In his speech on first day of the two-day long 21st National Council of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan, he elaborately described the history and political situation of Bangladesh from the British period up to the latest situation of the country.
In his speech, he mentioned the roles of Bengali leaders since the British period to the War of Liberation in 1971. He mentioned the names of Masterda Surya Sen, Pritilota Wadeddar, Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy, our four national leaders-- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, M Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman, as well as their roles and sacrifices for the freedom of the Bengalis.
The historic roles of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his wife Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib and their eldest daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, were also described in his speech. The AL general secretary also spoke about the sacrifices and dedication of Bangabandhu, and his daughter Sheikh Hasina’s in rebuilding the war ravaged Bangladesh. Besides, the way of Bangladesh towards development also came up in the speech of Obaidul Quader.
He recalled the tragic history of Palashi as well as the great sacrifices of the Bengalis, who had jumped into the War of Liberation under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Besides, the most tragic incident of history, the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15 in 1975 was also recalled in his speech.
As the general secretary of the party, Obaidul Quader, in his speech, urged all the leaders and activists of the party, its supporters and well wishers to obey the orders and directives of the daughter of the Father of the Nation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the letter. He said, Sheikh Hasina now has become a world leader by crossing the limit of a politician. She has become a successful statesperson as she does not think about the next election, but rather about the future generation, said Obaidul Quader.
“Bangladesh will not lose its way since Sheikh Hasina remains the leader of the country. Sheikh Hasina is one of the four industrious statespersons in the world”, Obaidul Quader said and continued as saying, “Sheikh Hasina is the bravest leader in the history of last 44 years.” He advised the party leaders and activists to work together for the implementation of the electoral manifesto and rebuilding the party. He also urged to build the nation united and free from militancy.
Earlier, party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 21st National Council of the Awami League at 3:15pm while AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader raised the party flag.
