82.87pc pass SSC, equivalent exams

The results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations were published on Sunday with an overall pass rate of 82.87 percent. 

This year’s pass rate is a little higher than last year’s, which 82.82 percent. Some 135, 898 students obtained GPA-5 this year, which were 105,594 last year.

A total of 16, 90,523 students – 8,33,892 male and 8,56,631 female – passed the exam out of total 20, 40,028 students [10,21,490 male and 10,18,538 female] who took it.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally unveiled the results through a videoconference from her official Ganabhaban residence.

Before that, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni handed over a summary of the results to the through online from the former’s office in the capital. Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was also present on the occasion.

Later, the education minister briefed the media online to unveil the detailed results.

This year, some 17.31 lakh students took the test under nine general education boards, while 2.76 lakh under Madrasah Education Board and 1.31 lakh under the Technical Education Board.

In the eight general educations boards, 82.80 percent of Secondary School Certificate (SSC)—and equivalent exams—examines have passed the exam; the Rajshahi board has the highest pass rate, while Dhaka has the most GPA-5 scorers. 

The Rajshahi Education Board topped the nine general education boards with 90.37 percent pass rate for the second consecutive year while the Sylhet Education Board has the lowest pass rate -- 78.79 percent. 

The pass rates of other education boards are: 82.34 percent in Dhaka, 85.22 percent in Comilla, 87.31 percent in Jessore, 79.70 percent in Barisal, 84.75 percent in Chittagong, 80.13 percent in Mymensingh and 82.73 percent in Dinajpur. 

Some 82.51 percent students of Madrasah Education Board and 72.70 percent students of the Technical Education Board passed the exam.

Besides, a maximum of 35,047 students from Dhaka board achieved GPA-5 (grade point average) while the Sylhet board has the lowest number of GPA-5 achievers, which are 4,263.

The number of GPA-5 scorers is 26,167 in Rajshahi boar d, 10,245 in Comilla, 13,764 in Jessore, 9,008 in Chittagong, 4,483 in Barisal, 12,086 in Dinajpur and 7,434 in Mymendingh board.

Like previous years, students from science group topped the results with 94.54 percent pass rate this year. 

Some 4,76, 892 students out of 5, 04, 432 from science group passed the examination this year.

Some 6,01, 597 students out of 7, 87, 570 from humanities group came out successful in the examination while 2,87, 729, 306 students among 3, 39, 306 from business studies group passed the examination.
