Large-scale diesel unloading operations are underway at Chattogram Port to ensure a stable fuel supply in the country. At the same time, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has decided to increase fuel allocation, a move that officials believe will help ease market pressure.
At the Dolphin Jetty of Chattogram Port, around 35,000 metric tons of diesel is being unloaded from MT Oaktree, while another 33,000 metric tons is being discharged from MT Cape Bonny. 68,000 metric tons of diesel is currently being unloaded.
Meanwhile, three more fuel-laden vessels have entered Bangladesh’s maritime territory. These include MT Lian Song Hu carrying about 41,000 metric tons of diesel, MT Pacific Indigo with around 33,000 metric tons of diesel, and MT Nave Cielo transporting approximately 27,000 metric tons of octane.
To manage market pressure, BPC has also increased fuel allocation by 20 percent for octane and 10 percent for diesel and petrol. According to a directive issued on Sunday, the decision aims to maintain a steady supply of fuel at both dealer and consumer levels in line with current demand.
As per BPC’s order, the daily allocation has been set at 13,048 metric tons for diesel, 1,422 metric tons for octane, and 1,547 metric tons for petrol. Company-wise shares have also been specified.
Sources concerned said that following the recent increase in fuel prices, ensuring adequate supply has become crucial to stabilizing the market. The combined impact of ongoing unloading operations at the port and increased allocation by BPC is expected to help maintain a balanced fuel supply situation.
