Students of proposed Dhaka Central University blocked Science Lab and Technical intersections on Thursday, demanding the issuance of an ordinance for the university.

Due to the blockade for the second consecutive day, vehicular movement through the Science Lab intersection remains halted, said eyewitnesses.

Anwar Hossain Khan, inspector (investigation) of New Market Police Station, said the students blocked the intersection around 1:00pm.

Witnesses said the students of Dhaka College and Eden Mohila College brought out a procession from the campus and blocked the street. They chanted slogans in favour of the issuance of the ordinance.

Students of Government Bangla College blocked the Technical Intersection around 1:00pm today with the same demand, bringing vehicular movement in the area to a complete halt, said SM Jakaria, officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station.

Witnesses said police attempted to divert vehicles to alternative routes following the blockade.

Meanwhile, social media users warned others to avoid roads blocked by the students, with many seeking updates on traffic conditions in different parts of the city.

Earlier on Wednesday, Dhaka experienced severe traffic congestion for at least five hours due to protests and blockades at key points by the students of the seven college and Tejgaon College, causing immense suffering for commuters throughout the day.

Tejgaon College students blocked the Farmgate area on Wednesday, demanding justice for their fellow student, while students of seven colleges blocked Science Lab, Technical Intersection, and Tanti Bazar in Old Dhaka, demanding the issuance of an ordinance for Dhaka Central University.

Before leaving Science Lab on Wednesday, the students announced to block roads at the three points today again.
