Sixty-six golfers have qualified for the finals of the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2022 that began at Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka on Wednesday. They qualified in the second round of the tournament on Friday.

Among the qualifying golfers, 10 are Bangladeshis and two of the Bangladeshis secured their places among the top 10.

The final phase will be held on November 26-27.

At the end of the qualifying round, Thailand’s Itthipat Buranatanyarat reached the first place playing nine shots less than par, which means the number of strokes needed to complete a hole in a golf course.

Bangladeshi golfer Siddiqur Rahman followed him by playing seven shots less than par. Another Bangladeshi Jamal Hossain secured the fifth place by playing five shots less than the par.

While talking to the Bangladesh Post, Siddiqur Rahman said, “I’m not worried about the final result. Rather I’m concentrating on improving my performance in the game. Through this, I’ll be able to improve my performance for sure in the coming days.”

Expressing satisfaction with the condition of the golf course, Itthipat said both Bangladesh Golf Federation and Kurmitola Golf Club are trying their best to maintain the international standards here.

“We’re happy to play in this long course of 18-hole course,” he said.

The Asian Tour’s biggest golf tournament started in Bangladesh in 2015. This year’s is the sixth edition. The tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Bangladesh Golf Federation and under the patronage of National Bank Limited for the second time and in collaboration with the Asian Tour.

Apart from host Bangladesh, 120 professional golfers from 23 countries are participating in the tournament. It will conclude on November 27 with the distribution of prizes among the winners.

The first Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open was organised back in 2019. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament could not be organised in 2020 and 2021.
