Another huge ship loaded with coal arrived at the jetty of the thermal power plant at Matarbari in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar on Friday.

The Marshall Island-flagged MV Mondial Sun from Tarahan Port of Indonesia, has a draft of 12 meters under water .

Chattogram port officials said that it is not possible for such a big ship to be crowded anywhere else except deep sea port.  The ship docked at Matarbari came from Indonesia.

The ship has 64 thousand 93 metric tons of coal.  This coal will be used for power generation of Matarbari coal based power plant.   Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) is providing all assistance to the waterways including berthing of ships at the jetty of the power plant.

Matarbari Deep Sea Port Project Manager Captain Ataul Hakim Siddiqui said that the first large-scale ship arrived at Matarbari on April 25 with coal.  Four more ships followed in May.  The 6th ship arrived in July.  It will also play a supporting role in the deep sea port terminal expected to be operational by 2026 due to handling of large ships from now.

The construction work of Chittagong port's new terminal has not yet started at Matarbari in Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox's Bazar.

However, the deepest artificial waterway in the country has been created.

The port is also getting the benefit of a deep sea port by berthing large ships at the jetty of the power plant.
