4 killed in Gazipur gas cylinder blast

Four people, including a couple, were burned to death after a gas cylinder was exploded at Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur on Monday.

The incident took place at Mohammad Ali's house in Kalampur Purbapara area of the upazila in the morning, locals said.

The deceased were identified as Milon Mia, 40, his wife Munni Begum, 30, Farhad Hossain, 38, and Abdul Awal, 40. They were hailed from Gaibandha.

About 50 houses in four tin-shed colonies adjacent to the blast spot were blazed due to the incident.

Kabirul Alam, station officer of Kaliakoir Fire Service and Control Room, said the fire broke out at the colony early in the morning when a man went to light a cooking stove. The fire engulfed other houses soon, leaving the four people dead and some others injured.

On information, four units of fire fighters from Kaliakair and Joydebpur rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze. The firefighters also recovered four charred bodies from the spot.
