A total of 3,857 passengers traveled on the first day of operation of metro rail in Dhaka. On Thursday metro rail was operated from 8 AM to 12 PM. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAM Siddique disclosed the information.

He said that even though the train was supposed to run from 8 am, the passengers were standing in the queue from early morning. Some of these passengers were office goers, some came with their families. Many people just wanted to have the travel experience of metro rail.

Citing the inconvenience and problems encountered while buying tickets on the first day of the metro train service, he said, “I feel good to see everyone happy when they get on the train even after waiting in line for a long time. Many people face some problem as they are totally new to metro rail.”

On the issue about the ticket vending machine he informed, “For one way journey we said to give Tk 100 note at the counter but people are paying Tk 500, Tk 1000 note. Many people are giving very old notes in the machine which got stuck inside and this is how machine went out of work.”

“But hopefully, once people get used to this system, more people will take MRT passes and not waste time buying tickets. Then more passengers will be able to travel hassle free,” he explained.

The complaints of the passengers were that the authorities are working slowly to allow the passengers to enter the station. The authorities said there was some slow work to maintain order and acclimatize passengers to the whole system.

Besides, as previously announced, the metro rail did not run after 12 noon. As a result, thousands of people had to leave the station without fulfilling their desire to travel by metro rail on Thursday.
