Cyclone Hamoon that made a landfall in Cox’s Bazar Tuesday night, has left some 30,000 houses damaged during the gushing wind that almost flattened everything on its way.

During its trail of devastations for almost 2 hours it also claimed lives of three people while leaving many injured.

Heavy rains coupled with gush of wind also caused havoc in the coastal district for approximately two hours on Tuesday night. The speeding wind uprooted many trees, electric poles and snapped the power supply lines across a wide area in the district.

Communication with the district is said to be cut off as the damaged mobile phone towers, electric poles and tangles of wires remain on the roads.

The residents of Cox's Bazar district have been facing a complete blackout since Tuesday night.

According to the district administration, Maheskhali and Kutubdia islands were the first to bear the brunt of the gushing winds as the cyclone hit the coast late on Tuesday. A large number of houses were also damaged and many trees, mostly by the roadside, were uprooted.

The traffic movement remained suspended along the 26 kilometer stretch of the road from Maheshkhali to Shaplapur while electricity connection still remained severed.

Clearing of the uprooted trees is yet to start as communication is now difficult.

The district administration was struggling to communicate with the two upazilas due to the power outage.

Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Vibhishan Kanti Das of the district said two people died in Pahartali and Maheshkhali upazilas while another man died due to the collapsing of a wall in Ward No. 7 of Cox's Bazar city.
