20 die, highest Covid infection rate in a day

Bangladesh registered 20 more deaths in 24 hours from Covid-19 till 8am Friday. The total number of deaths has reached to 28,308 with the latest figure.

The current positivity rose to 33.37 percent, the highest ever recorded in the country in a day.

The country recorded 15, 440 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,762,771, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

In addition, the death rate now stands at 1.70 percent in the country, added the release.

Of the diseased, nine died in Chattogram division and five in the capital. Two each died in Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions and one each in Barishal and Mymensingh divisions.

A total of 46,268 samples were tested across the country till 8am Friday.

Some 1326 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period. A total of 1,562,369 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 88.63 percent.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 88.63 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.61 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.

The DGHS said among the total 28,308 fatalities, 12,382 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,740 in Chattogram, 2,075 in Rajshahi, 3,630 in Khulna, 958 in Barishal, 1,286 in Sylhet, 1,378 in Rangpur and 859 in Mymensingh divisions.

As of Friday, 5,658,672 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 367,381,991 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
