Covid-19 in Bangladesh

2,582 new cases, 35 deaths

Bangladesh on Wednesday registered 2,582 new cases of coronavirus, 35 deaths and 2,839 recoveries of patients from the pandemic Covid-19.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) while giving the 24 hours update in a statement said 15,204 samples were tested in 92 labs across the country during the period till 8am.

With that, the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 317,528, deaths 4,351 and recoveries reached 211,016.

The recovery rate is 66.46 percent while the death rate is 1.37 percent among the total confirmed patients.

 So far 15,77,616 samples have been tested since January to detect Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh after the emergence of the virus in China in December.

The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11. Bangladesh confirmed the first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

Of the latest dead patients, 23 were men and 12 were women. All of them died in hospitals.

Twenty two of them hailed from Dhaka, four each from Chattogram and Khulna, one each fromRajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh, two each from Sylhet.

Currently, 52,085 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,003 newly-quarantined individuals.

The authorities placed 589 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours when 572 left.

Some 19,954 people are staying in different isolation units across Bangladesh.

People have been asked to wear masks while going out of home, maintain a physical distance of at least 3 feet from each other and wash hands with soap to prevent the virus.
