Covid-19 in Bangladesh

2,174 new cases, 33 deaths in a day

Bangladesh on Monday registered 2,174 fresh cases of coronavirus and 33 deaths overnight. With that, the total number of cases rose to 312,996 and deaths 4,281.

The recovery count also rose to 204,887 after another 2,980 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period of 24 hours till 8am, according to the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) daily update.

A total of 12,454 samples were tested at 92 authorised laboratories across the country during the period.

Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 17.46 percent tested positive, while 20.19 percent cases were detected from the total tests, 15,50,203, conducted so far since January.

 Among the total infections, 65.46 percent patients have recovered, while 1.37 percent died.

 Among the latest victims, 29 were male and four female. One was in their 20s, three in their 30s, three in their 40s, six in their 50s, while 20 are above 60 years.

 According to the division-wise data, 21 deaths took place in Dhaka division, four in Chattogram division, five in Rajshahi division and rest are in other divisions.

 Bangladesh confirmed the first Covid-19 cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11.
