180 Bangladeshi female peacekeepers reach Congo mission

The only female Formed Police Unit (FPU) of 180 members of Bangladesh Police has reached the UN peacekeeping mission, Kinshasa capital of Democratic Republic of Congo.

The team left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last night on a chartered flight of Bangladesh Biman, according to a press release issued by the Police Headquarters on Monday. 

Members of the current BANFPU-1, Rotation-15, MONUSCO, DRC under the leadership of Commander Nazmun Nahar will replace the BANFPU-1, Rotation-14, MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DR Congo- MONUSCO) and DRC unit.

Marina Akhter was commander of the outgoing BANFPU-1 unit. FPUT has faithfully served in UN peacekeeping missions in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional IG Md Mazharul Islam, DIG Abu Hassan Muhammad Tarique, DIG Md Haider Ali Khan and AIG Nashian Wazed were present at the airport for seeing off the mission going unit.

Bangladesh Police has been participating in UN peacekeeping missions since 1989 with a commitment to the welfare of humanity and the establishment of peace. 

The red-green flag of Bangladesh is flying next to the sky-blue flag of the United Nations in the remote deserts of Asia, Europe, America and Africa. Over the past three decades, professionalism and efficiency of Bangladesh Police in implementing the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission has been highly praised in the international arena.

It is noted that since 2005, the Formed Police Unit of Bangladesh Police has been sent to UN Peacekeeping Mission MONUSCO. 

Bangladesh Police has been sending women-formed police units to the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2011. Since the year 2019, officers of Bangladesh Police have been performing their duties in the mission with distinction as Individual Police Officer (IPO).

The peacekeepers of Bangladesh Police are carrying out their duty in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, South Sudan with unwavering morale despite the global crisis of COVID-19 pandemic. 

Twenty-one proud members of Bangladesh Police have sacrificed their lives for world peace.
