16 die of coronavirus in a day in Bangladesh

930 fresh positive cases

Bangladesh on Saturday reported 16 more deaths from COVID-19 and 930 fresh positive cases overnight.
With that, the number of total cases surged to 20,995 and deaths 314, Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the regular virtual briefing.

This is the second highest single-day spike of deaths from COVID-19 in Bangladesh since the country reported 19 fatalities on May 13.
All of the latest dead patients are male. 12 of them are from Dhaka division and two each from Chattogram and Rangpur divisions. Ten of the deceased were aged above 50, she said.

A total of 6,782 samples were tested during the period of 24 hours till 8am of Saturday.
She said the recovery count also jumped to 4,117 after 235 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Bangladesh confirmed the first coronavirus cases on March 8 and first death on March 18.
Most of the patients are taking treatment staying at home.

Currently, 48,141 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,510 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 188,773 people have completed their quarantine course.
Globally, the virus has killed 308,827 people and infected 4,639,826 so far.
