14-Party Alliance expanding

Published : 20 Jan 2023 12:09 AM

The ruling Awami League has started growing stronger than in the past ahead of the next general election.

Recently the unity of the 14-party alliance led by Awami League has become stronger, while some other parties have also started coming closer to the ruling Awami League narrowing the gap among them.

Sources said all the components of the ruling party led 14-pary alliance want to make their unity stronger considering the upcoming National Parliament elections.

All of them are eager to make the alliance more active by removing the misunderstanding among them so that under the leadership of BNP and Jamaat no anti-liberation forces and conspirators could come to power.

All the parties of the 14-party alliance have already announced that they will participate in the next national election as an alliance.

As part of their understanding and the latest move, two of the five seats in the by-elections of the National Parliament have been left to the alliance partners.

Besides, coordination committees are being formed to strengthen the alliance at the district level. In addition to programs in capital Dhaka, various programs are also being considered at the district level.

Leaders of the Awami League and partner parties say that they have plans to extend all the programs of the 14-party alliance and strengthen their unity as well.

Awami League's Advisory council member Amir Hossain, who is also the coordinator and spokesman of the 14-party alliance, said that the 14-party alliance is united.

"We are holding regular meetings and programs jointly. We are discussing how the unity could be strengthened and we hope, our activities will expand day by day", said Amu.

He said the 14-party alliance is going to hold various district-wise programs jointly.

Talking about steps to strengthen the alliance at the district level, he said that the process is actively underway.

Rashed Khan Menon, President of Workers Party of Bangladesh, said in the process of working together many things could happen.

"Only misunderstanding could not be the major hurdle as there are ways of resolving all the issues through discussion", he said.

He also said, "We are together and we will remain united against all the conspiracies hatched by the anti-liberation forces and vested quarters."

"We have decided to take part in the next National Parliament election through a single platform as an alliance", he added.

He also said they have plans to expand programs of the alliance and strengthen the unity ahead of the election.

Dr. Shahadat Hossain, general secretary of Ganotantry Party, said the 14-party alliance is an ideological alliance and there is no problem with the unity.

"We will be in the field in alliance", he added.

It should be recalled that in 2004, Awami League formed an alliance with Rashed Khan Menon-led Workers' Party of Bangladesh, Hasanul Haque Inu-led Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and some other left-leaning parties, on the basis of a specific 23-point program aimed at strengthening movement against the then BNP-Jamaat led four-party alliance government.

Later, Jatiya Party led by Anwar Hossain Manju, Tarikat Federation and other parties also joined them.

Meanwhile, the Krishok Shramik Janata League chief Kader Siddique Biruttom, who once had been in an alliance led by BNP, has already left the alliance and called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League, at her government residence Ganobhaban along with family members.

The Krishok Shramik Janata League may support the Awami League in all its moves.

A portion of Gano Forum, which once had also been one of the components of the BNP led alliance, is no longer with BNP. A portion of the leaders of the Gano Forum might have joined the Awami League led alliance.

Besides, most of the Islamic parties, including Islami Andolan, are maintaining colse relationship with the ruling Awami League.
