The Bangladesh Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina completed its 12th year at a stretch on Wednesday by setting up unique examples in the development of the national economy, communication, good-governance and in improving overall lifestyle of the people of Bangladesh.
The government as well as ruling Awami League celebrated the day through holding various programmes across the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Awami League leadership have greeted the countrymen on completion of an era of the AL-led government rule at a stretch under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
It should be mentioned that the ninth National Parliament election was held on December 29, 2008. Bangladesh Awami League-led grand alliance won an absolute majority in that election. The journey of the new government started on January 6, 2009 under the leadership of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
After the victory of the Awami League in the 10th parliamentary elections held on 5 January, 2014, Sheikh Hasina was again sworn in as the Prime Minister of the government on 12 January. After that, the Awami League also won an absolute victory in the Eleventh Parliamentary Election held on 30 December 2018. Following this, the Awami League formed a government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina on January 7, 2019. She was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh for the third time.
Earlier in the elections in 1996, Sheikh Hasina had been sworn in as the Prime Minister for the first time after Awami League won the election.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the completion of 12 years of the AL-led government at a stretch, special prayers were held at the mosques and different offices of the party across the country wishing long life and sound health of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and overall welfare of the people.
Dhaka city south and north units of AL organized a prayer centrally at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office after the Asr prayers.
Besides, special prayers were held at the International Buddhist Monastery Road at Merul Badda in the capital, Dhakeswari National Temple and at Mirpur Baptist Church at Mirpur-10 yesterday, Wednesday.
