Two killed, 20 injured in clash between Two Groups in Munshiganj

Two people were killed and at least 20 others injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups over establishing dominancy in Char Dumuria area of Mollakandi Union under Munshiganj Sadar upazila on Monday.

The groups, led by Rahim Molla and Awlad Molla, reportedly exchanged gunfire and exploded crude bombs throughout the day.

The deceased were identified as Arif Mir (35) and Imran Hossain (22).

According to local sources, a long-standing dispute over dominance between the Rahim Molla and Awlad Molla groups led to the violent confrontation early Monday morning. Both sides exchanged in gunfire and crude bomb, leaving several people injured.

Locals rescued Arif and Imran and took them to Munshiganj General Hospital, where doctors declared Arif dead on arrival. Imran died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Unofficial sources reported that 20 to 25 more people were shot and are receiving local treatment.

When contacted around 6:30 p.m., Munshiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Saiful Alam said, “We are currently in the Char Dumuria bazaar area. We can still hear gunshots in the dark. Additional police forces have been deployed, and efforts are underway to bring the situation under control.”
