Some people of a remote village of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah have organised traditional and decaying ‘Gadankhela’. The event was arranged at Tribeni village on Wednesday to give some translucent joy. Not only that the young men arrange the game almost as a regular practice for them.
Rustam Ali, an audience of the game, said that they are deprived off Gadan and some other traditional games which were the means of joy and happiness for the rural people. The rural people enjoyed Lathikhela (stick play), Hadudu, Dariabandha, Kabadi and some other games round the year.
The events were organised at the courtyard of the well to do people or at the fallow land, locally known as Bhagar in the village. The girls were engaged in Gollachhut, Burichi, Khapra and some other games suitable for them.
Villager, also an elderly man Ramendra Nath, said the young people even in the rural villages are engaged in unethical activities when they are not engaged in any good work.
Rather, they are addict in computer games and such other activities round the clock. It has been retouching them from any positive work. Ignorance of guardians was most important factor there, Ramendra opined.
Mosharraf Hossain, who passed Masters Degree from Dhaka College said he organized the traditional game at the village said to encourage the young generation towards traditional and decaying local games when the young generation was leaning towards dangerous games with smart phones.
To spread the games among the villagers once again, they will invite the young men form surrounding villages, especially, the men returning from their educational institutions join them and participate in the decaying games in the afternoon. It will strengthen friendship among the young generation, the organizer said.
