A youth was killed by his cousin over a land dispute in Santhia upazila of Pabna on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Selim Molla, 40, son of Habibar Molla, resident of Hasanpur village under Khetupara union in the upazila. He is the assistant general secretary of Khetupara Union Jubo Dal.
It was known that Habibar Molla had a long-standing land dispute with his brother Sattar Molla. In consequence of the dispute, Sattar’s son Kalam and Nijam started cutting bamboo from the bamboo grove on the disputed land on Friday noon. While they were cutting the bamboo, Habibar’s son Selim tried to stop his cousins from cutting the bamboo. Selim’s cousin Najim kicked him at his chest and hit him with bamboo at that time. As a result, Selim died at the spot.
On information, members of army and police reached the spot. Patrolling was strengthened in the area to avoid any conflict. Police detained Abul Kalam, Nijam Uddin and Monirul in connection with the incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santhia Police Station, Anwar Hossain, said a person named Selim was killed over a land dispute. Police went to the spot. Legal actions will be taken if any complaint is received.
