The Judge of Rajshahi Cyber Tribunal has awarded Jahid Hasan (26) two-year of rigorous imprisonment in absentia for casting a video of intimate moments with a woman and blackmailing her.
Ismat Ara, State Prosecutor of the court informed, Jahid Hasan of Janiar Bagan area under Joypurhat sadar district developed a relationship with a woman and took videos of the intimate relationship with her secretly and realised money from her by threatening her to post the video in various online media. In protest against the realising of money and proposing to establish a physical relationship with her, the woman filed a case against Jahid with Joypurhat sadar police station on March-7, 2021. She further mentioned that Jahid threatened to make the secret video viral online and realised Taka 60,000 from her possession and again proposed to establish a physical relationship with her and demanded Tk 19,000 more otherwise threatened to post the video on the internet. As a result, she filed a case under Digital Security Act with Joypurhat police station in this connection.
After cross-examining the witnesses, the court awarded the accused two years of RI and Tk 100,000 fine or to serve three months of more imprisonment for non-realisation of the fine under a rule and under another rule, he was awarded one year of more imprisonment and Tk 100,000 fine and three months more imprisonment for non-realisation of the fine. Both punishments will continue simultaneously, the court mentioned.
