A youth was hacked to death by miscreants in Bogura on Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place near Agrani Bank in the city's Chak Farid Colony area around 4:30 pm. The deceased was identified as Azharul Islam Shanto. He was the son of Abul Hossain Ali of Kuptala Sahapara area of Sariakandi upazila, said Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saihan Oliullah.
However, he used to live in a rented house in the city's Full Dighi area. In addition to studying for a college degree, Shanto used to work for an ISP service. Hasibul Islam, brother of the deceased, said he left home for work in the afternoon.
“He said he would be home shortly. Later I heard he was hacked to death. I don't know if he had any enmity with anyone. However, I heard that there was an argument with a group in the area, my brother may have been killed over that incident,” he said.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saihan Oliullah said the miscreants stabbed Shanto repeatedly.
“The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained. We have several teams working on this incident. Hopefully it will be possible to bring those involved under the law soon,” he said.
On condition of anonymity, a top police official said, “Shanto is accused in several cases. There are four cases including drugs, weapons and snatching against him. The murder may have occurred due to drug dealing or establishing domination in the area.”
