Youth gets six years RI under DSA

A Cyber Crime Tribunal in Rajshahi on Wednesday noon awarded  a former chairman of a union council to six years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk. three lakh in a case filed under the Digital Security Act on the charge of sharing an edited pornographic video of his rival candidate on social media in 2020.

Judge Md Ziaur Rahman pronounced the verdict in a case filed against Zabaidur Rahman alias Gama (50) former Union Parishad chairman of Nashipur Union under Gabtali upazila in Bogura, Public Prosecutor Ismat Ara Begum informed.

She said that the tribunal sentenced Zabaidur Rahman to three years of  rigorous imprisonment and fine of Tk. one lakh, in default,  to serve an additional three-month in jail, under Sections 23(2) of the Digital Security Act-2018.

The tribunal also sentenced the convict to three year’s rigorous imprisonment simultaneously and fined Tk. two lakh, in default, to serve an additional six-month of jail, under the Sections 25(2) and 29(2) of the DSA.

 According to the prosecution story, Zabaidur Rahman collected a pornographic video from Youtube, blurred the face of the person in the video, and wrote the name of his rival Chairman candidate and sent it to the family members and relatives of the latter through internet.

 Later, the rival candidate Ziaur Rahman Talukdar alias Tutul filed a general diary against Zabaidur Rahman with the Bogura Sadar Police Station and later a case under the pornographic act on February 2, 2022.

 Later, the police recorded the case under the Digital Security Act and arrested Zabaidur from the Colony area in Bogra city.

 The public prosecutor said, both the punishments would be executed simultaneously.
