Youth arrested over extortion charge in Savar

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka district police have arrested a youth for his alleged involvement in extortion, business grabbing and attempt to murder. The DB police arrested him from municipality area in Savar, on the  outskirts of the capital, on Thursday.

Mohammad Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of DB (north, confirmed the matter to The Bangladesh Post on Friday morning. 

The arrestee was identified as Md. Arif alias Tunda Arif, 30, son of Kochi Mia, hailed from Genda municipality area of Savar.

Earlier, Taimul, the Coolie Bit leaseholder of ‘Municipality wholesale vegetable market’ was filed a case with Savar Model Police Station against six youth along with Arif, bringing allegation of extortion, lease grabbing and attempt to murder charge.

According to the case statement, Arif demanded taka five lakh as extortion from the leaseholder some days before, but the leaseholder refused to pay. Later, Arif along with some other were beating the victim and tries to kidnap him.

Mohammad Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of DB said, Arif alias Tunda Arif is the accused of many cases including extortion, attacking, attempt to murder. He was produced before a Dhaka court on Friday.
