A suspected Yaba trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at EPZ area in Chattogram in the early morning on Saturday.

Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, assistant director (Media) of RAB-7, confirmed the matter. He said “We have informed that a big contingent of yaba would enter into the port city by sea. In this view, a few check posts were set up in the EPZ embankment area. When the yaba traders crossed in front of a check post in the area, the RAB men asked them to halt.”

Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire targeting the RAB men which prompting them to fire back for self-defense, triggering a gunfight around 5.30 am, said the RAB official.

“After the gun battle, the law enforcers found the bullet-ridden body of an unidentified robber on the spot,” he said, adding that the identity of the slain drug dealer has not yet been ascertained.

One lakh pieces of yaba tablets, a foreign-made pistol and magazine, an LG gun and six rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot, he mentioned.
