Yaba dealer killed in gunfight with BGB in Cox’s Bazar

A yaba trader was killed in a gunfight with Border Guard Banglades (BGB) at the Korbunia border in Ratnapalang union under Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday night.

The identity of the deceased yaba dealer was not found yet. However, BGB recovered 50,000 yaba tablets, 1 domestic gun and 2 cartridges from the spot.

Cox's Bazar 34 BGB captain Lt. Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said on Thursday noon, “A group of yaba smugglers from Myanmar had taken up positions in the Korbunia area of the Ratnapalang union on the border, based on reports that a large quantity of yaba tablets would be smuggled.”

Then, when a group of 4/5 people saw them coming and tried to stop them, they fired at the BGB members and the BGB fired back. The smugglers later fled the scene. An injured man was rescued from the spot and taken to Ukhia Upazila Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he added.

The body was later sent to the morgue of Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital. A BGB member was injured in the shooting and is being treated at Ukhia Hospital. A case is underway in this regard.
